About Rediscover Projectとは

Statement
People often assume that what society defines as uniform and complete is what should be considered beautiful. And at times, things of genuine worth are cast aside simply for being “out of standard.”<br>
The Rediscover project breathes new life into what would otherwise be discarded—objects deemed irregular or imperfect, as well as fragments of Kutani ware, Wajima lacquerware, and Suzu pottery broken in the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Though born of the same Ishikawa region, these crafts had long existed as separate traditions; the project brings them together, allowing them to merge into new forms of expression.
The traces of repair hold the memory of time and carry a narrative. This is not “restoration,” but “transformation.”
Countless fragments shift and change, shaping expression with complete freedom. By respecting their very existence, we uncover their value.
To notice the unconscious biases that cloud our view. The Rediscover project is a practice of rediscovering genuine diversity. It asks questions of a society that rejects anything less than “perfect.”
Process
From “Stand with NOTO” to “Rediscover project”
“Stand with NOTO” is a project launched immediately after the Noto Peninsula earthquake. As part of the reconstruction assistance, we first set up a temporary workshop for Wajima-Nuri craftsmen and worked to create jobs for them. Funds were raised through crowdfunding, and a temporary workshop was set up in Nomi City. We also created jobs for Wajima-Nuri craftsmen by connecting pieces of Kutani Yaki porcelain. We have also exhibited and sold the products in Japan and abroad.
Six months have passed since the start of activities. From the phase of earthquake reconstruction, we will further develop and transform our activities and move on to the next stage.
The Rediscover project was established by CACL Inc., together with Wajima-Nuri craftsmen, Suzu-yaki craftsmen, and Kutani-yaki studio.
The project finds new value in traditional crafts and substandard items that might otherwise be discarded.
We pursue new artistic expression using discarded and substandard items by fusing different crafts, such as Kutani Yaki and Wajima-Nuri.
