About Rediscover Projectとは

Statement

Sometimes, people assume that the only definition of “beauty” is the standard and a certain perfection that is imposed by society. On that day, Noto was divided. It was not only the electricity, transportation, and other infrastructure failures but also the failure to reach people due to “Refrained volunteer activity”.
A right-oriented society became even more divided. “Rediscover Project” is a project that brings together all kinds of things that were damaged during the Noto Peninsula earthquake, such as Kutani ware, Wajima lacquerware, and Suzu ware, these are all separately established crafts from Ishikawa Prefecture. The artist fuses all of these damaged pieces that are usually disposed of and gives new life as a new form of artistic expression. Countless fragments are transformed to create a variety of expressions. No two pieces are the same. No two people are alike. We respect and find value in their very existence. With respect for all craftsmen. Be aware of the unconscious bias that lies before us. Questioning a society that rejects imperfect things. “Rediscover Project” will rediscover true diversity.

Process

From “Stand with NOTO” to “Rediscover Project”

“Stand with NOTO (Hope with NOTO)” is a project launched immediately after the Noto Peninsula earthquake. As part of the reconstruction assistance, we first set up a temporary workshop for Wajima-Nuri craftsmen and worked to create jobs for them. Funds were raised through crowdfunding, and a temporary workshop was set up in Nomi City. We also created jobs for Wajima-Nuri craftsmen by connecting pieces of Kutani Yaki porcelain. We have also exhibited and sold the products in Japan and abroad.
Six months have passed since the start of activities. From the phase of earthquake reconstruction, we will further develop and transform our activities and move on to the next stage.
The Rediscover project was established by CACL Inc., together with Wajima-Nuri craftsmen, Suzu-yaki craftsmen, and Kutani-yaki studio.
The project finds new value in traditional crafts and substandard items that might otherwise be discarded.
We pursue new artistic expression using discarded and substandard items by fusing different crafts, such as Kutani Yaki and Wajima-Nuri.
